2-D ASSEMBLAGES
My process begins with an archive of photos that span my lifetime. These photos are my palette. I choose, collage and alter them until they become the story I want to tell within an aesthetic frame. I create worlds that are undeniably seperate from the one we live in. I try to pull the viewer out of a logical and common world, and place them within a new reality.
“Nevermore”, 2016 is about overcoming a natural disaster and how the catastrophe reassembled and unbearably reconstructed nature. The reality I create can be a heartening awareness. “Poetry Tent”, 2017 is about that moment when you can’t find the words to convey an incredible moment you have experienced. My intent is to engage the viewer with a complex and alluring image that inspires them to see and think differently.
I’ve been a graphic designer and art director for 34 years. In 1990 the advertising and public relations company I worked for began using computers for graphic art, it was then I began learning photoshop and illustrator among other graphic programs. I’ve a BFA in sculpture with a concentration in painting, coupling my fine art sensibilities with my graphic capabilities became the union that galvanized my creative approach to constructing the 2-D Assemblages I’ve been creating since 2013.
